Karrissa Jones is an invaluable asset to the Landmark Title team. Karrissa began working at Landmark Title in 2020, but she admits that she’s been an admirer of the company for the last 10 years. She previously worked for a company that collaborated with Landmark Title on out-of-county business. Karrissa is a Commercial Escrow Officer/Unit Manager and in this role, she demonstrates the true definition of a servant leader. Her enthusiasm for her team and for her Landmark family shines in all that she does internally and externally.
What do you think sets you apart from others in the industry?
A strong work ethic and being a morning person. I find it difficult to stay late to work but getting up at 2 or 3 a.m. to start the day is not a problem. This has become something that helps a lot when working on a commercial transaction where a lot of the people we’re dealing with are elsewhere in the United States and sometimes 3 or 4 hours ahead of us. Starting when they start on closing day makes a difference. We’ll be 3 hours into a deal before 8 a.m. hits. This happened naturally, but I use it as a marketing line now and tell clients I start when they start.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Starting the day with a fresh contract in the morning with a cup of coffee.
What are some of your hobbies and interests outside of work?
Our family is very into motorsports: racecars, dirt bikes, SxS, go-karts, the list goes on. We all even have golf carts and no one in our family golfs. We just entered our 6-year-old daughter into a go-kart race recently and she’s still talking about it. It’s a family sport for us. We joke sometimes that we work harder on the weekends than we do during the work week!
What motivates you to come to work every day?
I genuinely love the work, but coffee helps.
What advice would you give to someone just starting in your position?
There will be growing pains! When the opportunities in this industry come don’t opt for the convenient route. When faced with something new, go through the struggle of researching and learning instead of a simple “ask and answer.” That’s where the pain is, it’s not convenient to spend time on something in a fast-paced industry but the growth at the end is worth it. I remember when I started as an assistant, and we had an EO on our team who had to leave long-term for a family incident. The EO that took over the desk was swamped with items and would ask me to just handle something. I figured out how to handle it, pulled past files, looked up answers, did my research and then came to her with a final product to sign off on. She kept giving me opportunities after that. Some people think they’re getting “work that’s not their job,” those people don’t see the opportunity.
What are your future career aspirations?
To open a brick-and-mortar office in Tucson. Landmark Title was there 10 years ago, and I want them back in the old pueblo!
Can you tell us about a time when you went above and beyond for a customer or coworker?
Not sure on an exact time, but I’m no stranger to driving to someone to personally take a signing, picking up/dropping off documents for clients or coworkers, doing courtesy work (Tiffannie – don’t worry it’s “no liability incurred”), covering desks, giving out my cell phone and answering before/after hours. It’s circumstantial, sometimes the need is more than the inconvenience.
